A new era

For us, our new logo represents a shift in how we feel as developers.

We want to show our appreciation for human-crafted artwork. Real thought, discussion, effort and love goes into everything we make, including graphics like these and in our games.

That's right, it's time to talk about AI. (sorry)

We'll never use generative AI for anything creative at Exabyte Games.

Anything artistic generated by an LLM has a low-quality feel and is founded on stolen work. We don't think this has any place in video games and it's clear many players share the same opinion, particularly in the indie space.

For programming, generative AI is a small tool in our toolbox to create snippets of code and support learning in new areas. However, we believe that delegating too much to AI is a fool's errand, with purported benefits that can't be measured, doomed to increase in cost while making us dependent on proprietary cloud software.

We want to invest in people. We want that feeling of pride that you get when you've actually made something. Not to mention, we find it fun making our own things and working with others who make things!

Our new logo reflects this philosophy, showcasing our love for making art and code (and this newsletter!) by hand. Thank you to Harriett Lewis for creating it, and for all your hard work over the years.
